This module introduces students to the foundations of mass communication and the technological, social, and cultural forces that have shaped its development. It traces the historical evolution of media as industrial and cultural institutions, exploring their ethical and legal dimensions, while paying special attention to the digital revolution and its transformative impact on media industries and audiences. At the same time, the module brings students closer to the profession of journalism by engaging them with work across multiple media platforms—print, broadcast, and online. Students will acquire basic journalistic skills and learn to navigate the theoretical and practical aspects of the profession, with a strong emphasis on storytelling. By bridging historical, conceptual, and practical perspectives, the module equips students with the knowledge and tools to critically understand and actively participate in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
